A bloody incident unfolded on Friday afternoon at the Mandra Police Station, when a man attacked the guard with a knife and broke into the building, moving threateningly towards the police officers.
Despite repeated calls from staff to disarm and surrender, the perpetrator refused to comply and continued the attack. In order to prevent immediate danger and immobilize him, one of the police officers used his service weapon, shooting him in the abdomen.
An EKAB ambulance rushed to the scene, which transported the injured man to Thriasio Hospital, where he is being treated in serious condition according to medical information.
The case is being investigated by the competent police department as part of a preliminary investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident, while, according to initial indications, the alleged perpetrator is experiencing psychological problems.
