The young player is now hospitalized out of danger and in stable condition , having escaped the worst after a shocking maritime accident that occurred on May 11 in the waters of the Dominican Republic.
According to the official announcement from the production company, Acun Media , the 22-year-old has fully regained consciousness and is receiving the utmost care, being under constant monitoring in the Intensive Care Unit .
The medical team is on high alert, seriously considering the possibility of airlifting him to a specialized medical center in the United States as soon as his clinical condition allows. The mobilization was immediate: three members of his family are urgently traveling to Santo Domingo to be by his side, where the program’s producer, Acun Ilıcalı , is already there.
The dramatic story of his injury unfolded off the island of Saona , while the player was spearfishing (fishing with a speargun). A passing tourist speedboat, named “Adrien III”, literally ran over him. According to the captain of the boat, it was a tragic accident. The consequences, however, were absolutely devastating, as the young Greek suffered a partial amputation of his left leg and an extremely serious injury to his right ankle . Already, the local authorities and the port authority are conducting intensive investigations to fully clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
The words of the 22-year-old’s father, who publicly described the nightmare they are experiencing, emphasizing that the fact that his son was kept alive is a true miracle . Categorically denying the unfounded rumors, his father clarified that Stavros was properly wearing the special safety buoy provided for such activities. Unfortunately, the speedboat, which had two powerful outboard motors, did not avoid the player, hitting both the buoy and him with its propellers, in front of the eyes of a terrified teammate. His father described with emotion the race that followed, as the young man lost huge amounts of blood in the water, but also during the excruciating, 40-minute journey to the hospital.
Today, everyone’s thoughts are focused on young Stavros, who, despite his serious injury, proved that he possesses unimaginable strength of soul, managing to win the most precious prize, the gift of life itself.
