The Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office has filed new criminal charges for the murder of the infant , whose body was found frozen in a suitcase in an apartment on Thasos Street in Kypseli, with the central charge now being homicide.
The 43-year-old Greek man and his 38-year-old German partner, who claim to be the child’s parents, are in the sights of the judicial authorities. The couple is being prosecuted for a series of felonies and misdemeanors. Specifically, for intentional homicide against a family member with complicity , carrying and using a weapon , illegal possession of ammunition with complicity and false testimony, both consecutively and once.
The charges against the 26-year-old Afghan , who allegedly had a relationship with the 15-year-old girl who lived in the apartment on Thasos Street, are also very serious. He was charged with sexual acts with a minor , both before and after the age of twelve, while he also faces charges of possession of ammunition and false testimony.
The voluminous case file has already made its way to the investigating officer’s office, in order to issue the new arrest warrants . In parallel with the new prosecutions, all three defendants have been before the investigating officer since the morning of Wednesday, September 2 , in order to plead guilty to the original charges against them, namely drug trafficking and failure to report the discovery of a dead body .
The focus of the police investigation is now on the 43-year-old’s attempt to justify the injuries found on the dead infant’s back. The accused claimed to the authorities that he was trying to break the ice with a knife, a version that investigators are clearly skeptical of.
Although the 43-year-old categorically denies that he took his child’s life, the Greek Police officers handling the case believe that he is the perpetrator. The case is at the stage of criminal proceedings and the defendants retain the presumption of innocence until an irrevocable court decision is issued.
