The revelation of a nightmarish case involving a 74-year-old former general practitioner in Brisbane has caused deep shock and horror in Australian public opinion, as well as in the Greek diaspora.
Stellios “Stan” Theodoros (Stelios Theodorou) is facing a very serious indictment of 148 total offenses , which include 94 charges of rape and 54 of sexual assault.
The case, which came to light after a long and systematic investigation by the Queensland police authorities, concerns complaints from women who had the misfortune of finding themselves on his examination bed during his many years of professional career, believing that they were undergoing standard and necessary medical procedures.
The tangle of this dark story began to unravel in August 2025, when the Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Department formed a task force under the code name “Operation Xray Cariyna.” This move was the result of successive and courageous reports that began to reach the authorities from various women, who decided to speak out about what they had experienced.
According to the information collected by the police, the criminal activity of the former family doctor extends over a fifteen-year period, specifically from the early 2000s to 2015. During this time, the defendant allegedly sexually assaulted at least 15 women , whose ages ranged from their late teens to around 40 years old, at the time he worked at the Wellers Hill Medical Center in the Tarragindi area.
The 74-year-old’s methodology reveals a shocking abuse of power and a complete breach of his medical oath. The findings of the Queensland Competent Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) are a cataclysmic one , as they ruled that the former doctor carried out specialist tests without any medical necessity whatsoever, but was driven solely by sexual motivation . His repeated pattern of inappropriate behaviour included unwarranted and excessive Pap tests, breast examinations and vaginal palpations, with the sole aim of his personal gratification. This behaviour was characterised by the court as extremely serious and beyond all limits of acceptable clinical practice, which has already led to his indefinite ban from practising before the criminal part of the case has even been concluded.
The defendant, who retired in 2021 and was subsequently removed from any administrative position, is expected to be brought to justice on June 23 .
For his victims, the pronouncement of these mass accusations is a huge moral relief , although, as one of the victims characteristically stated, this vindication came too late, leaving deep psychological scars.
Police investigations remain open, with the detective in charge making a public appeal to anyone with additional information or who has experienced similar behavior to break their silence, in order to bring full justice to one of the most heinous cases of abuse of the trust relationship between doctor and patient .
