Two Greek frigates and two Israeli missile boats operated together in the Mediterranean Sea , in an exercise that is part of the enhanced defense cooperation between Greece and Israel .
The exercise was carried out as part of the ongoing cooperation between the two Navies , aiming to strengthen operational cooperation and their ability to operate effectively together. It is the type of training that, beyond its technical dimension, gradually builds the common understanding and common reflexes required in real conditions.
During the exercise, the forces were trained in a series of operational scenarios, including emergency situations , as well as the identification and response to threats in the maritime environment. Personnel exchanges were also carried out between the two sides, with the aim of transferring knowledge and experience and further strengthening operational capabilities.
The commander of the 3rd Squadron stressed the importance of cooperation and pointed out that deepening cooperation with the Navies of the two partners strengthens operational capabilities and international ties, while contributing to regional stability.
As he added, “such cooperation enhances the readiness of the forces to deal with a wide range of scenarios, strengthens the protection of Israel’s maritime borders, and further strengthens the Israeli Navy as a strategic pillar for the State of Israel and its security.”
The exercise takes on added significance when considered in the broader context. Defense cooperation between Athens and Tel Aviv has deepened significantly in recent times, with the signature of the intergovernmental agreement on the “Achilles Shield” as its peak expression. The joint exercises function as the operational extension of this relationship, transferring to the sea what is agreed in the offices.
